Best waterfalls in Bali (according to us)

1. Layana Waterfall

Approx 30 minutes from Hotel Komune.

Entry fee: Free!

Layana Waterfall is a beautiful 2-step cascade that flows directly into the river. Sorry, no swimming at this one! With no entry fees or hiking required, Layana is easily one of the most reachable waterfalls in Bali. Take a break at the warung (restaurant) to enjoy the view and some yummy food.

2. Tegenungan Waterfall

Approx 20 mins from Hotel Komune

Entry fee: 15,000-20,000 IDR per person.

Tegenungan Waterfall is a popular choice among the best waterfalls in Bali. There are plenty of Instagram opportunities on your way down to the fall and a bustling market for a quick shop on your way home.

The impressive flow of water creates a cool, fresh swimming pool making it perfect for a dip after the 127 steps down. The site offers other attractions besides the waterfall, making it a perfect spot to spend the day. Take in the view from the outdoor lounges of Omma Day Club Bali, relax by the pool and enjoy the food and drinks on offer.

3. Timbumana Waterfall

Approx 35 mins from Hotel Komune.

Entry fee: 10,000 IDR per person.

Considered one of the best waterfalls in Bali, Timbumana offers a scenic drive through rice fields and palm trees. With easy access, a short 10/15 minute walk and safety measures in place, including handrails for the stairs and a flat concrete path, it’s suitable for all visitors.

The 20-metre-high waterfall ends in a large pool, inviting you to take a refreshing swim while surrounded by the beauty of nature. Yes, that means swimming is permitted and it’s warm enough for you to relax and take in the scene for a little while.

4. Suwat Waterfall

Approx 35 mins from Hotel Komune.

Entry fee: 15,000 IDR per person.

For those seeking an immersive experience in nature, Suwat Waterfall, surrounded by Balinese jungle, is the ideal choice. The 15-metre-high waterfall features a permitted swimming hole and a bamboo raft for capturing those perfect Instagram shots (free of charge). Take a short 5-minute walk through rock carvings to reach this hidden gem.

5. Goa Rang Reng Waterfall

Approx 30 mins from Hotel Komune.

Entry fee: Donation box, recommended 20,000 IDR donation per person.

Known for its topaz blue waters, Goa Rang Reng Waterfall in Ubud is possibly the most beautiful waterfall in the Ubud region. With three variations including a sloped cascade, a hollowed cavern, and a natural swimming pool that you can swim in, there’s plenty to explore here.

An easy ten-minute walk will take you to a fork in the path with one way leading to the cave and the other to the falls. The walk gets a little more adventurous over the rocks to reach the swimming hole.

6. Kanto Lampan Waterfall

Approx 25 mins from Hotel Komune.

Entry fee: 10,000 per person

A 15-minute walk featuring a well-maintained path, Kanto Lampan Waterfall offers a multi-tiered cascade that falls into a refreshing pool. The pool isn’t big enough for a proper swim but you can enjoy a nice soak in the water.

This spot is a photographer’s delight, and while you may need to cross shallow waters, the picturesque setting is worth the effort.

7. Sumampan Waterfall

Approx 24 mins from Hotel Komune.

Entry fee: Donation box, 5-10,000 IDR per person for good karma.

Close to the famous Bali Tegenungan Waterfall, Sumampan offers a real jungle experience with hanging vines and lush fauna. If you want a closer look at the falls you will have to cross a river and tackle a few stairs but the incredible views and interesting stone carvings along the way make it a worthwhile visit.

Although swimming may not be allowed, the surrounding beauty compensates for the lack of a dip. It can easily take an hour round trip to explore this area.

8. Goa Raja Waterfalls

Approx 44 mins from Hotel Komune.

Entry fee: Donation box,  5-10,000 IDR per person.

Translated as “King Cave”, the Goa Raja Waterfalls offer a beautiful, 15-minute walk through the jungle, but be prepared to get your feet a little wet. One waterfall flows over a huge cave and the other into a terraced rock pool for swimming.

This site is particularly special, offering a sacred spring known as Melukat, revered for its spiritual cleansing properties for both body and soul. Before reaching the enchanting cave waterfall, your path will lead you past the ancient remnants of the Jehem Cliff Temple, dating back to the 11th century AD. The unique journey and beautiful surroundings make it a memorable adventure.

9. Leke Leke Waterfall

Approx 1 hr 21 mins from Hotel Komune.

Entry fee: 50,000 IDR per person

While the entry fee is a little steeper than some other Bali waterfalls, the money goes toward staff wages and site maintenance. Nestled in lush jungle surroundings, Leke Leke Waterfall is a 15-minute walk away, featuring a fun bamboo bridge crossing. Although more of a plunge pool than a swimming hole, the journey to this waterfall is an adventure in itself.

10. Kunig Waterfall

Approx 30 mins from Hotel Komune.

Entry fee: 20,000 IDR

Also known as the “yellow waterfall”, Kunig offers a fun 20-minute walk with smaller waterfalls, lush green plantations, and some steep stairs. The 25-metre straight fall of water into the rock pools below provides a refreshing shower after the walk.

Avoid swimming in the river, as the current can be strong and there are no locals to keep watch.
